A bicycle route through the Veluwezoom National Park.
A route that takes you over heathland, through forest and along the IJssel River.
The bike route starts toward the core of Laag-Soeren. You have probably already seen the little tower. Huis Laag Soeren was part of an eighteenth-century estate. In the nineteenth century, a bathhouse was established here for medicinal baths. This spa was the first in the Netherlands and was internationally known. On the Priesnitzlaan the Priesnitzmonument (turret of Jut) was erected for it. Outside the village is the \"Elsberg,\" a 90-meter-high hill with a nature observation post at the top. You cycle towards one of the 20 parks in the Netherlands. The Veluwezoom National Park is over 5,000 hectares of forest, heathland and sand dunes for you to enjoy. The landscape has a lot of variation. During the ice ages a lot of height differences were created in the form of lateral moraines containing large erosion valleys. Animal species you can encounter here are Scottish Highlanders, wild boar, red deer and Icelandic horses. Even though the animals look cuddly and are fairly tame, do not feed them. That can make them very sick. In Rozendaal stands Rosendael Castle. You can participate in a castle tour and see the Bedriegertjes from the 18th century in action. These are hidden fountains that turn on and off unexpectedly, spraying visitors with water. The route meanders along the river IJssel to bring you back to Laag-Soeren via the edge of Het Veluwepark.
