Cycling route along Frisian waters

You start this bicycle route from Broek. You ride directly into the beautiful, green landscape. On a clear day, the horizon is as far away as the eye can see. Large and small trees line the road. They offer shelter and sometimes separate the road from the water. And you will see a lot of water: streams, lakes, ponds and ditches. Twice you will even cross by ferry. Make sure you have change with you! The openness of the landscape is characteristic of Friesland. You cycle along the Langweerder wielen, a long lake of almost 3 kilometers on the south side of the Sneekermeer. Between Langweer and Boomzwaag stands the Sweachmermolen, which originally dates from 1782. Cycling along the waterfront, large shipping ships pass you. Parallel to the highway, you ride to Joure. This place originated on a sand ridge. The higher parts were safer from water and the dreaded Vikings. In 1753, Douwe Egberts' father started a store in colonial merchandise. This grew into the coffee roaster we still know today. In Joure you can take a well-deserved break on the waterfront or on the square. Via Terkaple you come to the dike that runs along the waters of the Sneekermeer. This is also called the Schelpenpad. Occasionally you will meander across the farmer's yard before heading back out onto open water. Via Goingarijp you cycle back to Broek.
