Tour along Tjeukemeer

Bike route along Tjeukemeer lets you cycle along the Tjeukemeer, as well as around the Groote Brekken and along the IJsselmeer.
Bike route along Tjeukemeer starts in the fortified town of Sloten in municipality De Friese Meren. You will cycle to Tjerkgaast. You continue the route to Spannenburg, where road and water intersect from different directions. You will cycle to the Tjeukemeer via Follega, where you will find a belfry with a bell from the fourteenth century. Along the lake is also Oosterzee, where a water sports center can be found. Via Oosterzee-Gieterseburg you cycle to Echten, where pumping station Esten discharges water into the Frisian Boezem. Statue Tsjûke and March with a text reading how the lake was created is worth seeing here. In tourist village Echtenerbrug there are many events and a tourist boating lake. You will continue cycling to Langelille in municipality of Weststellingwerf. This village originated on the left bank of the river Tjonger. Via Scherpenzeel, the route continues to Schoterzijl, on the border of Friesland, Overijssel and Flevoland. Schoterzijl is named after the lock which, in the days when the Zuiderzee was still there, relieved Friesland of water. You cycle into a small part of the province of Flevoland, to cycle along the IJsselmeer to Lemmer. Here you are right back in Friesland, in one of the most famous water sports towns, where you can grab a terrace. You round off the route along the elongated lake Groote Brekken, where you visit De Brekken and Tacozijl, to finish again in Sloten.
