Cycling route through National Park Dwingelderveld

From vacation park Zonnetij you drive into the surroundings of Dwingeloo. The first mention of Dwingeloo dates from a deed from 1181. This comes from the archives of the monastery of Ruinen. In Dwingeloo stands the St. Nicolaaskerk which dates from the 15th century. Linked to this is the story of the juffer van Batinge. When the church was being built she rode by on her horse every day because she had an eye on the master builder. This distracted too much so she was sent on a trip. She did still pass on her idea about the tower, which led to a different architectural style. There is still a lot of riding and nowadays cycling in the region. You will ride through the beautiful area of National Park Dwingelderveld. You will pass heathland, small waters and woods and experience the tranquility. You may encounter snakes and toads, as well as 6 species of orchids and extraordinary butterflies. Feel free to take a break to enjoy on a terrace or walk through the Sheepfold. You will ride between the fields, passing the Dwingelderveld Visitor Center. Via the west side of the park you cycle back to the starting point. You are sure to have gained an impression of Europe's largest wet heathland area.
