Cycling through Drenthe countryside

The beautiful stream valley landscape of the Drentsche Aa
If you want to feast your eyes, this cycle route through the Drentsch Aa river valley landscape is the right place for you. Among other things, we ride over the Hondsrug and along the Zuidlaardermeer. Along the way we encounter a lot of nature, culture and history. It is a rich area full of excavations and dolmens. Take a look at megalithic tombs D3, D4, D8, D11, D16, D17 and D18 and be amazed at the many facets of Dutch history. But also special is the Balloerveld, a moorland that still clearly shows cart tracks from the Middle Ages. This area was a busy route for traders traveling between Groningen and Coevorden, using the very tall Jacobus Church in Rolde as a beacon. In terms of nature, this route also does absolutely nothing for beauty. Vast moorlands over a beautiful hilly area with a tuft of pine forest here and there has made many residents and vacationers fall in love with the area. For refreshment during the route, there are plenty of villages and hamlets to be found. These spots often feature a village square with trees that once served as a village green. Notable is the small hamlet near the Balloerveld of the same name, which has only 8 houses located along Visvlietweg between Gasteren and Loon.
