Cycling through the dunes and taking a break in Alkmaar

Bicycle route via Heiloo to Alkmaar and through the dunes back to Castricum.
You start at Duin en Bosch and cycle around Castricum passing places like Dusseldorp and Bollendorp. The latter lies among the bulb fields but does not owe its name to this. Bollen refers to bolle which was a hill on a spirit ground. The old place has existed longer than flower bulbs have been grown there. Heiloo is also associated with height (from Heilig Loo is Holy height). People lived in the area west of the Limmen-Heiloo-Alkmaar beach embankment from the era of the era. Through the parks Zuiderneg and Noorderneg you will cycle around Heiloo on your way to Alkmaar. In the historic center you can enjoy the atmosphere of this old 'cheese town' in one of the cafes or on one of the terraces. With nearly 400 national monuments, there is much to see here. The Waaggebouw, the Sint-Laurenskerk and the courtyards are a small selection. After the bustle of the city, the route goes through the dunes. You will enjoy the tranquility and the vast expanses of sand. But also the green of the sea buckthorn and the colors of the berries.
