Delightful combination of city and water near Amsterdam

The start of the route is in district Zeeburg, a multicolored, multicultural mixing pot in Amsterdam East. Immediately afterwards, the IJ is crossed and at Durgerdam the real cycling begins. Durgerdam, after the end of the fishing era, is mainly inhabited by commuters and right along the coast the view of the IJ-lake, despite the growing buildings, is still beautiful. A little further north, at Uitdam, Marken comes into view, connected to the mainland by a dike and characterized by a long history of fishing, floods and, of course, traditional costumes. The tour continues inland, towards Broek in Waterland. This village has a rich history, reflected in part through the famous Sint Nicolaaskerk, which dates from the fifteenth century. In addition, the numerous, multi-colored houses are beautiful monumental highlights. The tour continues through Buiksloot, formerly an independent polder municipality, but added to Amsterdam almost a century ago. Volewijck is the next borough on the route, where it is clearly recognizable that the municipality is investing heavily here to improve the living environment. This part of the route runs right along the Noord-Hollands Kanaal, the province's ancient lifeline. After a few kilometers we cross the IJ again to then return, from Central Station, via the eastern harbor area back to the starting point in Zeeburg.
