Route through the greenery of Drenthe
Cycling around Klijndijk and its surroundings.
From Buffet Restaurant Thijs and Aafke you drive into the beautiful landscape of Drenthe. That Drenthe was already inhabited a very long time ago is shown by the 52 hunebeds that are there. These grave monuments consist of boulders that were brought in during the Ice Age. Bones were sorted and placed here. Over the centuries, small-scale agriculture came to Drenthe; later in the twentieth century, large companies established themselves and industry developed. Drenthe consists largely of sandy soil, only the lower part at the edge of the province consists of peat soil. You cycle through beautiful areas with forests but also views of agricultural land, farms and grasslands. In Ellertshaar you ride along the water. The sand extracted here is used as masonry and concrete sand. Via the nature trail you ride to Eesergroen and then through a beautiful area with heathland, sand flats and forest. After the center of Oodoorn, you still pass through the mixed Valtherbos, which was planted in the 1920s. If you deviate from junction 37 to 41 and cycle a bit 21 you can see dolmens D38, 39 and 40. Do cycle back to 37 to relax at Thijs and Aafke's after this route.
