Tour of Volendam, Marken and Purmerend

From Camping Weidevogelzicht you start this hefty bicycle route of almost 50 km. You cycle parallel to Purmerringvaart and are already treated to the most beautiful views over water and meadows. From Axwijk you can follow the water almost to the Markermeer. You almost pass Edam's museum and ride through the center of Volendam. The distinctive houses in the harbor, the fishing boats and the costumes are worth cycling here at your leisure and enjoying what you encounter. From Volendam, take the ferry across to Marken in 30 minutes. Tickets can also be ordered online. Marken is now a peninsula but has been a tourist favorite for a century. The wooden houses on stilts and the costumes are truly distinctive. Over the Zeedijk you cycle to the mainland: water on both sides and the horizon far ahead. Getting lost is not an issue here. Along the Gouwzee you will arrive in the town of Monnickendam. You pass monuments and ride over old bridges through the center. After the town you cycle through the vast North Holland. Small ditches and grasslands alternate. You will pass through the old center of Purmerend before cycling the last kilometers to the campsite. Don't forget to take a break along the way at one of the cozy locations.
