Het huidige landhuis dateert uit de 17e eeuw en wordt omringd door oude bomen, grachten en een fraai landgoed. Kasteel Ampsen geldt als het oudste kasteel in de omgeving van Lochem. Hoewel het kasteel particulier bewoond wordt en niet van binnen te bezichtigen is, vormen het landgoed en de omgeving een prachtige plek om langs te fietsen of wandelen en te genieten van rust, natuur en historie.
