Verdedigingswerk Oosbeer

Philippine was vanaf de tachtigjarige oorlog een vestingdorp. De Spaanse troepen hebben de vesting gesticht. Na verovering door de Staatse troepen werd de vesting verder uitgebouwd om de toegang naar de haven met doorvaart naar de zee te beschermen tegen de Spanjaarden in het huidige België. Later werd Philippine een onderdeel van de verdediging tegen de Franse troepen. De vesting Philippine is in 1816 opgeheven.
Ui kijkt naar de Oostbeer, een verdedigingswerk dat een vijand effectief kon tegenhouden, terwijl de waterkerende functie van de aansluitende dijken behouden bleef.
Deze Oostbeer is aangelegd in 1748.
De Oostbeer is in 2013 gerestaureerd.
