A bicycle route through the Frisian countryside

From Bolsward you will start this bicycle route in beautiful Friesland. Bolsward is not big but it is a real town and one of the Frisian eleven cities. The old town offers many places of interest, but for now you will mainly cycle through it. Along the Workumervaart you cycle south. You will pass the many ditches and canals that are so characteristic of Friesland. The open landscape, with vistas that reach to the horizon, can only be seen here. You cycle through the Frisian landscape to Makkum. A municipality on the IJsselmeer with a historic center. At the lock you can see the difference between the waters of the Makkumerdiep and the Grutte Sylroede. Over dikes and along waters the landscape changes and birds fly above your head. Along small villages of sometimes only a few inhabitants you will return to Bolsward.
