A drive through the Alde Feanen

A route from Leeuwarden to the Alde Feanen and back again.
There is a lot to see in Leeuwarden. In 2018, the city was elected Cultural Capital of Europe. In 2022 Cultural Capital 2.0. And rightly so. Long gone times are brought back in this city full of architectural delights. Church buildings, city gates and mansions abound. A good number of museums are not to be missed. But don't forget to take a look in Warga and Grouw with their protected villagescapes, museums and windmills. South of Leeuwarden we find the National Park the Alde Feanen. According to connoisseurs one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Europe. 2300 hectares of pure nature area inhabited by 450 species of plants and more than 100 species of birds. This low moor swamp is quite large in diversity. From large open stretches of water to densely wooded swamp forests and everything in between can be found here. In addition to bogs, reed beds and grasslands abound here. Lovely fragrant trees and shrubs meet you as you ride through the Alde Feanen on this bicycle route. Bird lovers, insect lovers, plant lovers and mushroom seekers are all in their element in this rich environment. Getting off the bike and having a look around? Then it's not a bad idea to bring a pair of boots!
