A green route under the smoke of Amsterdam

From the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam, you do not cycle to the city center but toward the IJmeer. After crossing the Amsterdamrijnkanaal, you will ride through the Diemerpark. This is a city park opened in 2004 on the Diemerzeedijk in Amsterdam East. The city park was used as a garbage dump until 1973 and as such is known as one of the most polluted places in the Netherlands. It has been completely encased creating a kind of roof garden. Digging is therefore also prohibited. Via water and land it goes to Muiden. Here you can take a turn on the Herengracht to Het Muiderslot. The Muiderslot is a medieval castle built around 1296, still in good condition. On the Dijkweg you drive through the greenery to Muiderberg. Take a look on the dike at all that water behind it and call something in the Echo wall at the Echo forest. You will pass the highway and cycle to Naarden. This is one of the best preserved fortified towns in Europe and especially famous for its unique star shape. Along the Vecht, the route winds to Weesp to end up back at the Amsterdamrijnkanaal.
