A route through the Green Heart around Gouda

Bike route through the Reeuwijk lakes and past the Boskoop tree farms.
From historic Gouda, this bicycle route takes you into the beautiful surroundings. You cycle in the direction of Stolwijk. The \"Stolk\" tower is a striking landmark in the wide surroundings. The 45 meter high tower near the NH Church was built on older foundations in 1501. Originally the tower was 9 meters higher, but in 1717 the spire was blown off and the current spire was placed in front of it. Through the Krimpenerwaard you come to the Reeuwijkse Plassen. These are thirteen lakes between Bodegraven and Gouda. They are separated by narrow roads. Here you cycle across with water on both sides. The lakes all have a rectangular shape, in which the former parceling of the peat lands can still be seen. After the Reeuwijkse plassen you will ride through the town of Boskoop along the river De Gouwe. This area is known for its tree nurseries. Many hundreds are scattered over more than 1000 acres with lots of ditches to provide enough water. The apple variety De Schone van Boskoop (also called Goudrenet) most probably originates from here. After this beautiful route you can reminisce on a terrace in the center of Gouda.
