Bicycle route along the Rottemeren
Beautiful bike ride from Zoetermeer along the Rottermeren.
There are many things to see and do on this route. For example, you will soon come across the Zevenhuizen Mill Quadrangle. These mills have been keeping the surrounding polders dry since 1727. If you come on a Saturday, you can still see them turning. For a change from cycling, you can also hop on a boat. During the high season you can take a beautiful boat trip on the peat river all afternoon at Zonnepont 't Verlaat. If you decide to continue cycling there are many more attractions and recreational opportunities waiting for you. These include a petting zoo, a marina, a swimming pool, a recreational park and even a rowing course.
Rather out for some peace and quiet? Then you are also in the right place along this bicycle route. Nature is breathtaking and features all kinds of flora and fauna. The most common birds here are the garden warbler and the blackhead. In the Koornmolengat nature reserve you can find the bittern and the little bittern, a heron species that is almost extinct. In terms of flora, willows, Berke trees, the Elst and a host of walnut trees are mainly found in this beautiful area.
