Boundless bicycle tour near Ootmarsum

During this beautiful ride through the north of the Twente region, cyclists will be introduced to the beautiful scenic landscape around the tourist town of Ootmarsum.
Start and finish of this attractive tour are in the center of Ootmarsum, beautiful old town with a rich and long history. In the Middle Ages, Ootmarsum was the center of a lively trade between the west of the Netherlands and the north of Germany. The town benefited from this development for a long time, but then somewhat lost track. Its agricultural character was preserved, and in the second half of the last century Ootmarsum was rediscovered, now as a tourist attraction. Numerous monumental buildings, galleries and half-timbered houses are fine examples of the attraction of this fascinating place and especially during the vacation season the town attracts many tourists. The route initially heads north through the beautiful forest area of Het Springendal. This nature reserve is characterized by springs, streams and hills and is a feast for the eyes. After about twenty kilometers we enter German territory and the trail runs south right across the border. We then turn to North Deurningen, small village within municipality of Dinkelland, and made famous by the Kuiper family, a famous local ice cream maker and in 2017 crowned the best in Europe. Along the banks of the canal between Nordhorn and Almelo, we continue cycling through the gently rolling landscape, also the area of the meandering river Dinkel, after which, after about 47 kilometers, we return to Ootmarsum.
