Through the heart of the Vecht valley

The route starts in the old town of Ommen. Besides three mills you will also find a number of museums. A little further on the route you will arrive at the Besthmenerberg. From here you have a beautiful view over the Vechtdal. At dusk you can observe the phenomenon of the 'Witte Wieven' if you are lucky. The surrounding area consists partly of forest estate with pollarded beech trees, rhododendrons and burial vaults. Partly it consists of the 'Dutch Desert,' a result of sand drifts more than a century ago. And partly the area consists of heaths, fens and lakes full of red water lilies. On the way to Dalfsen you will encounter mills such as the Besthmenermolen and the Vilsterse Molen. Further along the route through this beautiful landscape you will arrive at the Rechterense Veld. Nature is abundant here. The woods are home to rare plants such as the royal fern and forest horsetail. Birds like the golden oriole and the woodlark come here to breed. The damp moorland attracts dragonflies and butterflies such as the heather blue. Arriving in Dalfsen, you can always enjoy the historic architecture. Numerous farms and mansions here are listed on the National Monument Register.
