Cycling over the slopes of the Salland Ridge

The Salland Ridge is an ice age-derived moraine, up to 70 meters high, like many that have formed in our country. The nature of the landscape has become increasingly diverse over the centuries, offering cyclists and hikers numerous wonderful opportunities to explore the region. Virtually the entire route has a rolling character with completely different views of the forest and heathland landscape after every turn. The Holterberg - with the tourist village of Holten - is the main element of the area with a great diversity of flora and fauna and with no less than eighty bird species. Grouse and many amphibians also populate this area, which consists of mixed forest, mostly planted in the last century to promote the diversity of the reserve. Near Holten is also an important and heavily visited Canadian cemetery with victims of WWII, as well as a nature museum. The bicycle route runs partly around Holterberg, passing through Hellendoorn on the north side, known for the presence of the Adventure Park. The two corn mills De Hoop and De Wippe are worth a visit here. At the end of the route is Nijverdal, a tourist attraction with features of the former textile industry and also popular because the Pieterpad runs through it.
