Cycling route along the bulbs and through the dunes

From Aerdenhout, drive south to the bulb fields. The region is characterized by sand ridges, geest grounds with bulb fields and dunes. During flowering, this region is one of the most colorful in the world. From late March into May, you can enjoy the bulbous plants. From the bulb fields you will drive to the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes. Since 1853, water has been extracted for the city of Amsterdam, making this the oldest water extraction area in the Netherlands. Every year, seventy million cubic meters of drinking water flow through this area. It is a protected natural monument with the largest population of fallow deer in the Netherlands. Chances are you will see one. From the dunes, you also drive into the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park at Zandvoort. The changing dune landscapes and forests are the habitat of numerous special plants and animals. Here you can encounter large grazers such as Scottish Highlanders, Konik horses and a herd of wisents. You can also swim in the Wed dune lake before the final stretch.
