Cycling to enjoy the Drenthe silence

Cycling and Drenthe are inseparable, and during this tour through the middle of the province, that duality is once again underlined
This route through Midden-Drenthe confirms the ideal image we usually have of Drenthe as a cycling province. Beautiful bike paths, beautiful nature, peace and quiet go hand-in-hand with beautiful sights. The route has Holthe as its starting point, a village that has its origins in the thirteenth century. From there the tour goes on to Orvelte, an attractive and fascinating village of village greens. The village probably originated between the 11th and 13th centuries. Orvelte presents itself as a real museum village, because of the many historical attractions in and around the village, where cars are not allowed. A sawmill, a smithy, a cheese factory and various studios and galleries make this place a real tourist attraction. The tour continues via Wezuperbrug and Wezup (in Drents: Wisp), where several characteristic farmhouses are listed. The route then goes past Aalden to Meppen. The Mepperdennen consist of a 37-hectare shifting sands area forested with Scots pines, located to the west of Meppen and form a beautiful part of this tour. Then we cycle to the esdorp Mantinge, again with some beautiful natural areas. The hamlet of Bruntinge, with a few pretty farmhouses, is the last part of this bike route.
