From the Amsterdam canals to the IJmeer

A route that takes you past canal houses and waterfront vistas.
This bicycle route shows you a piece of Amsterdam and its surroundings. Along the river Amstel you will cycle through the canal belt of the inner city of Amsterdam. The stately buildings and the water in the canals on which the boats pass under the bridges let you experience the characteristic atmosphere of the old center. Beyond the center, you will see the buildings change. Old buildings give way to new office buildings. Architectural buildings alternate to make way for houseboats. Via the Indische buurt it goes to the Nieuwe Diep. You will experience how familiar people are with the water as you cycle with the water on both sides. You ride past the Science Park where the University of Amsterdam is located. For miles you can enjoy the tranquility and greenery with the city in the background. After the Gaasperplas, you will ride into the Bijlmermeer district. Lots of greenery is combined here with high-rise buildings of up to ten stories, which was the first home for many residents in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Back at the Amstel River, with a view of the water, you can contemplate everything once again.
