Route around Staphorst

From Staphorst to The Weeribben-Wieden National Park.
From Staphorst's distinctive bright green shutters and blue window frames it goes to the green shades of the landscap. You can clearly see the straight lines of subdivision. The small ditches flow toward the big water of The National Park Weeribben-Wieden. This area was created by peat extraction and reed farming. You literally cycle right through it. The view changes from ditches, reed beds and meadows to open water and swamp forests. You may even encounter the otter here, which has resettled in the area since 2002. Also found here are the rare great fire butterfly and unusual dragonfly species. After the beautiful views that exude an atmosphere of peace and serenity, you will arrive in the center of Meppel. This small town has relatively many attractions due to a rich trading past. Over the water at the Keizersgracht and the Reest you cycle through Meppel. Along the canal you cycle again towards the polders to end up in Staphorst. Don't forget to take a break along the way and enjoy this beautiful part of Overijssel.
