The Kaagroute watery and surprising
Anyone who thinks of the Kaag, immediately thinks of water. This cycle route takes you past a historic town, beautiful creeks, vast tulip fields, picturesque villages and mirror-smooth lakes.
You start in the cosy town of Warmond and cycle along the beautiful Kaag. The photogenic village of Oude Wetering is located at the canal of the same name. The old church dominates the village and is visible from afar. Roelofarendsveen is called the tulip of the Randstad and the inhabitants of this village know this only too well. The old water tower has been adorned with large images of tulips since 1986. However, if you cycle past here in the right season, it is clear that this is where the tulip fields are, providing 25% of the total production. You will have a magnificent view over the Braassemermeer. After this you will enjoy the peace of the flat fields and after several villages, the beautiful city of Leiden comes into sight. You will pass close to the city centre and it is therefore a small effort to do some sightseeing. Take a look at the Pieterskerk or admire the old weigh house at the Aalmarkt. After a short cultural stop, you can resume your route. Via the village of Poelgeest you will eventually arrive back in Warmond.
