The Wells

This route runs partly through the Schoorl Dunes, a beautiful part of the Netherlands any season of the year. The salty water that runs controlled behind the dunes gives life to many unique flora and fauna. Especially many birds, colorful flowers and hundreds of species of mushrooms can be found here in the appropriate season. On the climbing dune more than 50 meters high, you have a beautiful view of all the different types of land and water in the area. North of the Netherlands' largest dune area are De Putten. Over the past few years a lot has changed at the lakes called De Putten, near the village of Petten. Dredgers have been hard at work creating islands where birds can provide themselves with food and nest. And with success! Many species such as the avocet, the common tern and various kinds of gulls come here to nest. Even waders such as the red-tailed godwit and the redshank come here in the spring and fall to have a bite to eat. Many species of ducks and birds of prey such as the peregrine falcon and blue harrier are also certainly no exception, even in winter! Therefore, for the birdwatcher, this route is a must to drive once.
