De Doorbraak is een waterafvoerproject dat is aangelegd om wateroverlast in Twente te verminderen, met name bij hevige regenval. Het gebied fungeert als een soort waterbuffer en afvoerroute, waarbij overtollig water van de rivier de Regge sneller en gecontroleerd kan worden afgevoerd naar het westen richting de IJssel.
