Fort bij Vijfhuizen

Fort bij Vijfhuizen is een indrukwekkend historisch verdedigingswerk en een bijzondere stop langs je fietsroute. Het maakt deel uit van de Stelling van Amsterdam, een UNESCO Werelderfgoed, en ligt op een strategisch punt tussen Haarlem en Amsterdam. Gebouwd rond 1890, diende het fort om de stad te beschermen tegen vijandelijke aanvallen door middel van gecontroleerde inundatie (onder water zetten van land).
