Cycling from Vaassen across the colored Veluwe

Cycling across the moors, through forests and parks and across the Veluwe.

Between the Veluwe Lake and The IJssel lies the Veluwe. This bicycle route starts in Vaassen. The earliest signs of inhabitants in this area are the burial mounds and celtic fields. These are prehistoric square fields around which earthen walls were made. Through the green surroundings with fields and forests you will reach the gardens of Paleis het Loo. Royal paths run through the parks. Apeldoorn also has its class, seen in the large mansions and a minimum of high-rise buildings. Berg en Bos Nature Park is a partly carefully constructed cultural park, but also varied forest, natural landscape. There is a 26-meter high watchtower that gives a grand view of the surroundings; the purple moors or on clear days even as far as Zwolle. Large parts of the Veluwe consist of moraines of material such as sand and gravel, formed in the ice age. From the Veluwe run several streams to the edge of the area. Special flora and fauna are found along these streams. The Veluwe is also known for its wild boar. Arriving back in Vaassen, you pass the medieval Cannenburch Castle. Vaassen also has a corn mill and a water mill that are worth visiting.
