A bicycle route through the Kop van Overijssel region
Admire the green shutters in Staphorst and the landscape around Balkbrug.
You will cycle a route through the Kop van Overijssel. In this part the polders dominate the landscape. Along this route you can enjoy vistas, agricultural buildings and woods but also nice villages. You cycle through Staphorst where the (bright) green shutters in combination with (bright) blue window frames, the doors with above the front door often a so-called tree of life can not escape you. You can even see residents walking here in traditional costume. Sunday rest is strongly observed here. You continue through the Boswachterij Staphorst. This is a spacious forest area created for timber production between 1930-1940 by unemployed people from the West because of the economic crisis. Among other things, various species of spruce, pine, oak and birch grow here. In the middle is the shallow pond the Black Pine with a sandy beach. The village of Balkbrug originated on the canal the Dedemsvaart. It owes its name to a beam that lay under a bridge in this canal. This beam had to prevent ships with too large drafts from passing this bridge. In the sixties the canal was filled in and the N377 where you are cycling along was built over it.
