Cycle routes
A green bicycle route in Gelderland
Bike along Lake Uddel and the historic Hunneschans.
This is a unique area in the Netherlands, created by a long struggle with the water. The old pattern of allotment and the peat meadow character are easy to see and are unique to the Netherlands. You will pass the Sand Sculpture Festival where the most beautiful works of art made of sand can be seen between April and the end of October. (not on Sundays). You cycle towards Apeldoorn where the Julianatoren, the Apenheul and Paleis Het Loo are located. Lake Uddel lies south of Uddel. At the lake is the Huneschans, a medieval ring wall bridge consisting of an almost circular courtyard about 100 meters in diameter. All around is an earthen wall about 30 meters wide and locally 4 meters high, all of which was intended to guard trade routes. Along the way there are plenty of times to take a break to eat or drink something at one of the catering establishments along the route. This route will also be enjoyed by children who can cycle a fair bit.
