A route through the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park.

Between lunch and dinner you can ride a delightful bicycle route through the National Park Sallandse Heuvelrug. You will pass the Outdoor Center Sallandse Heuvelrug where you can find information about the nature, geology and history of the area. The Sallandse Heuvelrug is a lateral moraine, formed about 150,000 years ago in the penultimate ice age. It runs from Hellendoorn to Holten. Its highest point is the (Great) Koningsbelt of 75 meters above NAP. Through the years and the hand of man things have changed quite a bit. Nowadays, the aim is to preserve the landscape and plant and animal life. There are vistas with large moors and vast forests that you cycle through. In general, the species diversity on the moors is not that great, but it is special. A large number of animals live there. But the nightjar in our country is a specifically heathland-bound species. The bird makes its rattling sound in the period from May to August at dusk.
