About the Utrecht Hill Ridge
A royal ride through an oasis of tranquility over the Utrecht Hills.
The natural area around Soest is a beautiful area for cyclists. In former times it was an excellent location to live, even when it stormed and the water from the Zuiderzee reached its highest levels. Part of the area flooded, but the villages on the ridge kept their feet dry. But since the construction of the Afsluitdijk, the climate has become a lot calmer. The result? A beautiful environment full of meadows, moors, woods and dunes. Cycle through Herman van Veen's favorite spot and also hometown: De Paltz estate. An area with beautiful forests inhabited by deer, badgers, squirrels and pine martens. According to Herman, the area is a feast for the eyes, whether it rains, storms, snows or the sun shines.
Further up the hill, you cycle through the Soesterduinen, where much of the area, including Soesterberg airport, has been given back to nature. This results in a beautiful area with a character all of its own and stunning views of the surrounding forests and meadows.
But apart from nature, you can also enjoy the extremely expensive country houses in the area. How about taking a look at the Soestdijk Palace?
