Cycle route through the Alblasserwaard in the southern part of the Green Heart
Beautiful bicycle route through the Alblasserwaard in the southern part of the Green Heart. You start the route towards the river Alblas. At this small river you can admire a special lock, which is part of the heritage of the South Holland Water Triangle. You cycle along the Broekwetering to pass through De Donk and Brandwijk past the hamlet of Vuilendam. In Ottoland, a village in the middle of Alblasserwaard, there are fourteen national monuments, including four archaeological sites a reformed church and nine farms. You will cycle to Giessenburg before taking time in Hardinxveld-Giessendam for a stop in restaurant for lunch or a cup of coffee.
The route continues along the Beneden Merwede, a lower reaches of the river Merwede, to Sliedrecht. This South Holland municipality is known for its many large dredging companies.
