Along river The Lek and through polders

Being blown out with a friendly smile is a good start to the bicycle route. You will ride along the river De Lek in the direction of Krimpen aan de Lek. Here you can take the ferry up and down to Kinderdijk where the old windmills of UNESCO World Heritage are located. The route continues through the Krimpenerwaard which lies in the Green Heart. The tranquility of the vast polders alternates with stretches of forest that offer shelter. In Bergambacht you will pass the Den Arend windmill. A corn mill from 1869 which is still in operation. The route passes through the beautiful town of Schoonhoven, with its old canals and quaint stores. The town is famous for its silver industry and silversmiths who were already known in the 17th century. This is why Schoonhoven is known as the Silver City. Part of the route continues along De Lek which is 62 kilometers long in total. Large ships can pass by here. In fact, the river is important for shipping between Rotterdam and Germany.
