Around the Utrecht Ridge

A varied loop over the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, with vast heathlands, dense beech avenues and spirited sand ridges. Along the way you will experience a dynamic interplay of quiet forest roads, farm tracks and historic villages like Amerongen.
Rondje Utrechtse Heuvelrug takes you on a loop past dense beech avenues, expansive heathlands and winding farm tracks, with Veenendaal a lively landmark halfway through your ride. You'll enjoy changing surfaces at every turn, from smooth asphalt to rough sand, as you cycle through the sandy life of Wekerom and Maarn and see the silhouette of Slot Amerongen glittering across Amerongen's village street in the distance. Between sand hills and deep hollow roads, you climb a short but punchy section at Overberg, where on a clear day you can look out far over the woods and fens of the Heuvelrug. Each time you dive back into the woods, discover surprising open spaces and pass quiet agricultural landscapes, making this round trip a nice mix of nature, culture and challenge.
