Beautiful bike ride through the Kop van Drenthe Cycle Route Nuus 3

Nuis - Nuus in Gronings - is the starting place of this beautiful bicycle tour across provincial borders. As a small village, Nuis has a fascinating history and a number of beautiful attractions, such as the Coendersborg. After about five kilometers the route continues through the Drenthe countryside, where forests, marshes, grasslands, raised bogs and not forgetting the dolmens. Near Steenbergen lies the interesting hunebed D1, which is considerably more fascinating in terms of history than its name suggests and certainly warrants a visit. Through the villages of Lieveren and Peizerwold the cyclist can get acquainted with the varied scenery of this northern part of Drenthe. This part of the province is home to the smooth snake, as well as some rather rare dragonfly species such as the meadow damselfly. Near the village of Peize is an interesting 1898 corn mill. Along the Peizerdiep, a beautiful meandering river with an exuberant flora, it is pleasant to relax and after about 30 kilometers we arrive in Roderwolde, with windmill Woldzight as an absolute must for the tourist. This mill, dating from 1852, also houses the Dutch Grain Museum. A little later, we pass the border with Groningen again, where the village of Leek is an eminently pleasant stopping place. The history here goes back to the Eighty Years' War and the village still has a number of beautiful buildings from this period. Via Midwolde and Tolbert we approach the end of this varied route.
