Beautiful bike ride through watery Friesland

The starting point of the route is at Galadammen, the connection between the lakes Morren and the Holken on the Johan Frisokanaal, with a history as logical as it is rich in tolls. Water and endless enders form the backdrop on this route, the first place of interest being Hindeloopen. This town is of course best known as 1 of the 11 towns of the Elfstedentocht, but still houses some fun attractions, such as the still manually operated lock and the former town hall, now serving as a museum. From Hindeloopen, the tour leads along the IJsselmeer with endless views of water and recreation, then about 12 kilometers further on, Stavoren looms, the former Hanseatic city and also part of the Elfstedenroute. With the statue of the lady of Stavoren and the lighthouse, some characteristic elements come to the fore. On the southern side of Friesland, the route crosses the villages of Skarl and Mirns, where some typical bell towers are worth a visit. Then the cyclist can get acquainted with a piece of surprising Friesland. This region - Gaasterland - lies at about 10 meters above sea level, thus rising above the rest of the province in height and landscape. Through the wooded area near Oudemirdum we turn north again for the last leg of this beautiful tour.
