Beautiful leafy bike ride on the Someren moors

This relatively short bicycle tour has a start at the village of Someren and leads through the Brabant forest and heath landscape, starting with the Strabrechtse heath, connected to the Lierop variety. The flora here consists of heather and many junipers, surrounded by woods and crossed by sheep herds, which successfully prevent the area from becoming grassy. A wide variety of flowers and plants provide a beautiful, colorful diversity until late in autumn. Moorsel, at the beginning of the trail is known for the hiding place of Allied soldiers in 1944. Another element of this beautiful landscape is formed by the numerous fens, an amazingly beautiful alternation of forest and heathland, which makes the cyclist seem to enter a different world after every turn. In particular, the Beuven pond, no less than 85 hectares in size, is an eye-catching natural gem at the end of this route, brimming with special bird species, including the bittern, the egret and the osprey. From several bird huts, this piece of fauna is easy to observe. The fen has suffered from pollution, but recent measures with drainage have led to quality improvement, allowing plants such as the rare marsh deer hay to develop again. Numerous beautiful resting points characterize this charming trail.
