Bike route through the Drunense Dunes to the Bergsche Maas River

From recreation park Duinhoeve you cycle directly into the Loonse and Drunense Dunes. You will see forest, heath and sand plains. There is no sea in the dunes which has earned it the nickname Brabant Sahara. The dunes were formed in the last ice age when the polar winds blew thick layers of sand here. Over time, man and nature did change the landscape. Overgrazing and removal of the top layer of soil for stables had made the soil poor. Today, every effort is made to preserve the nature reserve. Across the canal it goes through Drunen towards Heusden. You can cycle over the moat to take a break in this fortified town. The fortifications are still clearly visible. You ride on the bike path and clearly see the shapes in the moat. Further along the route you will pass the wide waters of De Bergsche Maas, as well as many smaller rivers. Through the built-up area of Waalwijk and its surroundings, you will again enter the Drunense Dunes. Nature and villages alternate in this route. You can enjoy the green of nature. But also of the facilities of establishments that can offer you a delicious drink.
