Cycle route round the Markermeer and IJmeer

Discover the natural beauty of the Markermeer and IJmeer with an extensive bicycle route that takes you along the waterfront and through many historic villages. The bike tour takes you through Amsterdam and along well-constructed bike paths to historic Muiden, where you can admire the famous Muiderslot castle. Continue cycling along the dikes with panoramic views over the glistening waters of the IJmeer towards Almere. From Almere cross over to Lelystad via the impressive Houtribdijk, which separates the IJsselmeer from the Markermeer, offering a unique cycling experience in the middle of the water. Continue your route along the eastern shores of the Markermeer through villages such as Enkhuizen, with its rich maritime history, before making your way to Hoorn, a city known for its beautiful harbor and the Westfries Museum. Finally, the route takes you back to Amsterdam along the western side of the IJmeer, enjoying peaceful nature and fresh sea air along the way.
