Round Almere

Almere is bordered on the waterfront by Lake Gooimeer, Lake IJmeer and Lake Markermeer. Except for the dikes, the municipality lies completely below sea level; as much as 2 to 5 meters. The first houses were completed in 1976 and now Almere is the largest municipality in Flevoland in terms of population. You start the route through Almere Stad just to end up in the parks Het Vroege Vogelbos and Kroomslootpark. This is a nature reserve intended for residents, where creeks, wetlands and forest can be found. You can also relax here. The waters of Lake Gooimeer provide beautiful vistas. Through the Waterlandsebos and along the highway it goes to the Oostvaardersplassen. These are of international importance as a wetland and wintering area for birds. Groups of cattle, horses and red deer have lived in the area for more than 25 years. They try to let these large grazers live in this area in a completely natural way. Along this nature reserve you reach the Markermeer and over the Oostvaardersdijk you return to the Noorderplassen. Here you can enjoy a drink or dinner after this considerable route.
