Cycling route along the Frisian coast and ancient mounds
A grand bicycle route along the Frisian Wadden coast and through ancient mound villages. Enjoy dikes, farmland, vistas and the silence of the northern landscape.
This bike route lets you experience the vastness of the Frisian countryside, where air, land and sea blend seamlessly. You cycle through an ancient landscape of mounds, meandering dikes and open farmland. The route takes you along the Wadden Sea coast, where the wind has free play and the horizon seems endless. On the way you pass characteristic villages such as Oudebildtzijl, Minnertsga and Sint-Jacobiparochie, where history is visible in old churches, straight roads and stately farmhouses. The hinterland is also special. Near Bitgum and Ingelum you cross open farmland, where centuries-old mounds still define the landscape. Via small roads you cycle towards Het Bildt, one of the oldest polders in the Netherlands. The straight lines of this cultural landscape form a fascinating contrast to the capricious rhythm of the coast.
