Cycling route around National Park De Hoge Veluwe

The bicycle route starts in Beekbergen. From the castle, you ride into the landscape of Gelderland on your way to Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe. Today, the park is about 5,400 acres and covers about five percent of the Veluwe. The area lies on the sandy soils of the Veluwe and was largely formed by water, ice and wind. The area that now forms The Hoge Veluwe owes its status to the couple Helene Muller and Anton Kroller. They bought several tracts of land between 1909 and 1921 with the aim of turning it into a private hunting ground. After financial difficulties, Het Rijk helped. In return, Het Rijk received ownership of Mrs. Kroller-Muller's art collection on the condition that a new museum be built. Moeflons still walk in the park, coming from Sardinia and Corsica. To increase the diversity of animals, Anton Kroller imported a group of mouflons (sheep) in 1921 and set them out in the Park. This species still walks around. In the Park you will also see heaths and fens. A fens is a small to moderately large water, fed only by rainwater and therefore acidic. The water remains on an impermeable layer of soil. You will cycle around the entire park and get to see the total diversity. Upon returning to the hotel, you can reminisce with a smile.
