Cycling route through the National Park De Alde Feanen

A route with vistas of grasslands, past water and reed beds.
From Rottevalle, this bicycle route starts out into the beautiful Frisian countryside. Trees and ditches along straight lines define the view. The allotment of land is clearly visible. This was done in the Middle Ages for cattle breeding. Trees often stand on a wooded bank and screen the surroundings. The route passes the shallow recreational lake De Leijen and continues along the grasslands. You pass several small towns and cycle into the National Park De Alde Feanen. An area of low moor swamp with wide vistas over the water and the shelter of the forest. The extensive reed belts serve for water purification, nesting and shelter. Recreationists enjoy nature here as much as the species. There is a great diversity of fish species, birds, herbs and flowers and plants. Here you can take a break and enjoy Friesland. Cross the water with the ferry (or cycle around it). Via Oudega and Opeinde you will ride along the parcelled meadows back to Rottevalle. Here you can reflect on all the impressions.
