Cycling through dunes and bulb fields near Noordwijk

The route initially goes down the coast along the colorful fields via Lisse to Sassenheim and in the second section takes the cyclist right through the dunes along the coast back to the starting point. In Sassenheim the visitor will find an interesting place including the characteristic Pancratius Church and the ruins of Teylingen, the remains of a castle from the thirteenth century. Around Sassenheim there are many beach ridges, remnants of ancient times when the place was almost by the sea. Furthermore, those interested can admire much antiquity, which indicates that the habitation of the area goes back at least to the Bronze Age, about two thousand years before Christ. Noordwijk, fashionable seaside resort on the North Sea, is of course a fascinating stop on this varied South Holland route. Various archaeological sights, revealing a long history of origin, give visitors a different view of this modernized village, and of course the - limited access - lighthouse also plays an important role in that history. On this part of the route, the cyclist has an almost constant view of the salty wet of the North Sea, a wide view that always remains attractive.
