Cycling through the Strabrechtse Heide

Witness the resilience of nature on the Strabrechtse Heide.
Between Geldrop and Someren we find the Strabrechtse Heide. This area of heath and fens is surrounded by forest. It is a unique opportunity to witness nature's natural recovery process. Meanwhile, after the fire, most of the charred trees have long since been removed, except for a single imposing charred tree that serves as a monument. A lot of fauna also came back right after the fire. Some birds even came right back, right at the exact spot of their old nest. Currently, much of the area is covered by grass, which is maintained by sheep until the land is ready to be converted back to heathland. It may take 10 to 15 years after the fire for the area to be completely restored, but you can already enjoy the now returned flora and fauna extensively. Especially the large amount of flowers and butterflies are a feast for the eyes and nose! Thanks to the supply of nutrient-rich water, the fens on the moors are an excellent place for a multitude of birds a plants. The bird lover will also get his money's worth along this route!
