Gelderland at its most beautiful
A varied route along the Veluwe and through Arnhem.
Doorwerth is a village on a moraine. This borders the southern part of the Veluwe. In this environment, nature and architecture are intertwined. Houses stand among the greenery and the few high-rise buildings there are in synergy with the Veluwe oak forest. Just outside Doorwerth, you will pass Doorwerth Castle. A real castle with towers and a drawbridge whose origins are in the 13th century. From history continue through nature and then into the city. Arnhem is great for sitting on a terrace to enjoy the capital of Gelderland. With Burgers' Zoo, the many museums and the parks, the day here is quickly over. But the bike route has another beautiful area in store; Sonsbeek Estate, Zijpendaal Park and Gulden Bodem Park. The latter is home to the tallest trees in the Netherlands. These give way to Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe which you will ride past. You can enjoy the tranquility and even drive along the river De Nederrijn.
