Panoramic bicycle tour around leafy Amerongen

The route of over 31 kilometers has a starting point at Leersum, beautifully situated village with many attractions, including the Owl Tower on the north side, which warrants a visit at the end of the bike ride and is located on the famous Lombok estate. After a few miles on the pedals, Amerongen looms, where the beautiful castle is an absolute must-see for recreational cyclists. The castle has an amazingly beautiful garden and also houses a lot of history. Amerongen also has a tobacco museum, which is also worth a visit. Near Amerongen, in addition to the Berg of the same name, are several other climbing hills, such as the Hazenberg, the Geerenberg and the Zuilensteinse Berg. A few kilometers further on, we arrive in Elst, a pretty village on the Lower Rhine, so a completely different landscape provides an attractive change of scenery for this bike ride. On the north side of the village is the 63-meter-high Elsterberg and the Galgenberg, surrounded by much history. The ride continues northward, passing close to Veenendaal. In this area, as part of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, Staatsbosbeheer is busy rearranging the forests, mainly to promote diversity. The results are now visible through the creation of fens and a turnaround in flora and fauna, of which the pine marten and the reappearance of the ruddy bat are concrete examples. Via Overberg and the manor of Bredeveen we return to Leersum.
