Piece of Frisian Elfstedentocht by bike

Cycling through Dokkum and across the bridge at Bartlehiem.
The town of Damwoude is now officially called Damwald in Frisian. Also all street names are in Frisian nowadays. But you have probably already seen that. You cycle through green Friesland to Dokkum. Dokkum is a well-known place because it is one of the eleven Frisian cities from the Elfstedentocht. But Dokkum is also on the list internationally. In 754 Bonifatius was killed near Dokkum. On the route you will pass the canals and drive into the center. You can clearly see the features of the fortress. The ice skaters even ride past here on the ice twice. But many cyclists also ride part of the route. Thus, you follow the route along the Dokkumer Ee to Bartlehiem. Here is the famous bridge. Famous because this is the only place where one can see the participants in action in three wind directions. Riding along the water and through the Frisian greenery you will get an impression of the Frisian vastness.
