Round Zwolle

Note: Road work is planned between junctions 63 and 64 for the coming period: - Until March 2025, there will be work on the stretch between Twistvliet Bridge and Middelweg. Follow the detour signs; they will direct you back to the original route. - There will be work north of Middelweg until September 2025. The detour via Urksteeg is indicated by signs and will take you back on the route. The bike route will be about 900 meters longer! Between the Vecht and the IJssel lies the medieval Hanseatic city of Zwolle. Since the 15th century, Zwolle has been a powerful trading city and you can see that as you cycle through the city. The historic center with its defensive wall, the Sassenpoort, the Peperbus and the star-shaped city canal surrounding it are definitely worth seeing. Thanks to the many waters in the area, you will undoubtedly cycle past, over or under a number of bridges and viaducts. The Hanseatic Arch and the IJssel Bridge are also well worth a look. Despite the growth of recent centuries, Zwolle has still managed to retain its village allure. Much of this allure is especially reflected in the amount of culture available in the city. Several theaters and museums make it a haven for many art lovers. Outside the city, you can enjoy floodplains of the IJssel River. These are protected natural areas filled with plants, shrubs and forests. This wet area between river and dike is a great place for many winged fauna to breed. Kingfishers, spoonbills and herons are often seen guests in these places. In short, a tour of Zwolle is a feast for the eyes!
